Sign Language Advising Seminars
The Sign Language Interpreter program requires completion of this seminar for all new and transfer students. This seminar covers the requirements of the Sign Language Interpreter Program, provides answers for any questions about the transfer process and reviews the course schedule and curriculum. This seminar is available for students to attend at any of the dates and times listed below. No reservation is needed - "walk-ins" are welcome.

Sip n' Sign
Join the Sign Language Club's "Sip n' Sign" activity to practice using ASL! All sign language students are welcome to participate. Upcoming Sip n' Sign event information will be posted as made available.
ASL Skills Assessments - $25
If you're an LCC student interested in testing out of a class or if you have previous American Sign Language (ASL) experience, a skill assessment is available following each Advising Seminar (see above). The results of this assessment will help determine a student's placement in classes. This assessment will measure the student's comfort and proficiency using various ASL linguistic features, vocabulary and finger-spelling. The cost per student is $25.

Graduates of LCC's Sign Language Interpreter Program find employment in both private and public enterprises. As a Sign Language interpreter you can expect to go wherever deaf or hearing persons may need interpreting services. The speed with which a student completes the program varies according to individual characteristics such as motivation and learning style, as well as the number of courses enrolled per semester.
Jobs for Sign Language Interpreters include interpreting for public schools, colleges and universities, medical and legal institutions and organizations, mental health facilities, video relay centers, religious settings, and many more private and public organizations and institutions. Sign Language Interpreting is a very rewarding career and requires a highly specialized skill-set. The most successful students will be committed to acquiring American Sign Language (ASL) as a second language. As a Sign Language student, you will need to seek out social interactions within the Deaf community and take advantage of opportunities to apply and enhance your proficiency in ASL.
