Writing your E-mail
resume is simply a different format then your hard-copy
resume and is prepared the same way as your scannable
resume. In fact follow the same guidelines and
examples for the
Scannable Resume
or refer to the Riley Guide >
On-line Job Application: Preparing Your Resume for the
Internet.
You must remember to save the resume as plain text, or in
other words in (ASCII) format. |

Rich text format is not advised. For step-by-step instructions on ASCII format see About.com. When you are ready to submit your resume, use an on-line employer service, as opposed to posting yours on the web. Be careful that you place in the "SUBJECT" line to forward the E-mail, as this is the "TITLE" that employers will notice first. Do not send out multiple styles of your resume to different employer database servers, as this will cause confusion. To protect your privacy, consider only using your e-mail address. For more information about free employer data base servers refer to the Riley Guide > On-Line Resume Databases. For additional assistance, contact the Center for Employment Services at Lansing Community College at (517) 483-1172 or stop by the Gannon Building (GB), Room 218. CONFIDENTIAL RESUME POSTING JOB BOARDS - FREE
E-MAIL AGENTS These sites search
their data bases daily for jobs with the job title you have
specified. As an example you might want a job as an
"accountant" and you specify "accountant" as your job title.
The e-mail agent will notify you when an "accountant job"
becomes available, via e-mail. You might find these services
save you time and keep you abreast of the latest job
openings immediately.
PREPARING A MULTI-MEDIA RESUME If you want a
multi-media resume then you will be building a HTML resume,
or even a 2-D graphical interactive presentation, or
portfolio of information. Be careful when linking employers
to related websites that you don't disqualify yourself with
a photo and you don't sidetrack employers. Linking them to
your e-mail address is wise but generally stay with only one
or two links. Of course if you are sending out applications
internationally you will want to translate copies of your
resume in other languages. |
