Do you have an in-depth knowledge of your career interest area?
Have you ever accepted a job and found out later that it wasn't what you expected? It's like buying a house and not shopping around. Ways to inform yourself include reading, the Internet, career software, networking with people. The same is true of a good career decision. Base it on solid, accurate and reputable information sources. If you have taken the time to do this, hopefully the next job you select will meet your expectations much better.

Are you aware of career resources?
The Counseling Center has a variety of career resources available. Keep in mind when selecting any resources, you must always evaluate the requirements of a job against your own interests, values, needs, personality, motivation, personal circumstances and responsibilities.

What type of resources are most helpful to you?
You may not be knowledgeable about the world of work. There are some 17,000 jobs available today and all kinds of opportunities. You may want to educate yourself about labor market trends, specific fields of interest and then specific careers.
