Business and Industry Certification:
Frequently Asked Questions for Students
|
Q: Do students take the exam in
class?
A: No. Certification exams are scheduled through the
Assessment Center at LCC. |
|
Q: Where do I take the exam?
A: Students who live within a 50 mile radius of the college's
main campus should take their exam at LCC's Assessment Center.
Students who live more than 50 miles from the main campus may take
their exam at a local
Prometric or
Certiport
(CIT courses) testing center. Please call the Assessment Center at
(517) 483-9665 for more information. |
|
Q: How do I schedule
the exam?
A: Exams need to be scheduled by completing a
registration form first, unless you are a virtual college student
and will not be taking your exam on the LCC campus. Registration
forms can be acquired from your instructor, picked up at the
Assessment Center, or accessed online at
/assessment/. Once your registration form is received and you
are scheduled, you will receive a e-mail confirmation notifying you
of your exam date and time. Virtual college students can contact
(517) 483-9665 in order to receive a voucher so they can schedule
their exam at a local testing center.

|
Q: I have several courses with
certification exams. Do I have to take all the exams at the same
time?
A: Certification exams may be taken earlier than finals week,
if the student feels ready. For full semester courses and last
8-week courses, all exams must be completed by the end of finals
week. Multiple exams do not need to be taken on the same day. |
|
Q: When will exams be available?
A: Testing is available for both Certiport (MOS exams) and
Prometric (All CISB courses) throughout the semester on specific
days. MOS testing is available
throughout the week on the following days (at
Assessment Center):
|
|
Tues. |
9am-1pm |
|
|
Wed. |
3pm-7pm |

Q: If I fail the exam, do I fail the
course?
A: This depends on the individual course and how much the
certification exam counts toward the final grade. This information
is available in the course syllabus. Please ask your
instructor about grading for your course. |
|
Q: How long before my industry
certification exam expires?
A: Exams should be taken during the semester in which you are
enrolled if you want the exam to count towards your final grade. You
may choose to take the exam after the end of the course, but it may
not count in your final grade. Exams paid through course fees are
valid until the second semester after being enrolled in the course.
For example, if you were enrolled in Spring 2004 semester, you would
be able to test until the first day of Spring semester 2005. After
that time, your exam would expire and you would need to pay an
additional fee in order to take the test. Remember that your
instructor may not change your grade if you choose to test after
they have turned in final grades. |
|
Q: If I pass certification, do I
still pay the course fee?
A: Yes. |
|
Q: If I don't want certification, do
I still pay the course fee?
A: Yes. |
|
Q: I'm already certified. Do I still
need the course? Can I get credit?
A: Our courses prepare students for academic degrees and
certificates as well as industry certification. Students who already
have a course's academic outcomes may apply for experiential credit.
In some instances, courses may be waived, but the credits will need
to be made up through course substitution. |
