It's inconceivable to me that I am starting my 9th season as softball coach; the time has gone so fast;
however I am more than ready for the challenge of another season. This may be my best team ever, we are deep in sophomores................
we have great balance and a very talented pitching staff. We have good hitters from top to bottom, a hard working defense, and we will
for sure be competitive in 2008. Our team hit 77 homers last season and I believe we can best that this year. The most rewarding
part of coaching this group of girls is being part of the camaraderie; they have taken the term "chemistry" to a new level; these players
really like each other, and it shows in how they cheer and exhort each other to do their best.
As good as I think we can be; I'm quick to
point out to our players that you are only as good as your last game,
and in order to be the best you must bring your "A Game" each
time you step on the field. The "Will to Win Means Nothing
without the Will to Prepare"; that is what we strive for each and
every practice. After our 5th place finish in last year's
National Junior College Athletic Association World Series, this team
has set their sights and goals to get back.....with the hopes of a
better outcome.
On a personal note; I love the time
spent with these young ladies.....they have become such an important
part of my life, and while it is not always smooth
sailing......there is nothing else I would rather be doing. I
will never take for granted the parents who entrust their daughters to
me for two years of school and playing ball. It would be
irresponsible of me not to give them everything I can.

Jerry Murphy
Assistant Coach
|
Jerry Murphy begins his 4th year as assistant softball coach
at Lansing Community College.......the energy and enthusiasm
that he brings to the team is one of the reasons the Stars have
been one of the top softball programs in the country.
Coach Murphy cut his teeth on fast pitch softball at an early
age when he started pitching for his church team. Since
then he has played on many teams in the mid-Michigan area....a
time span covering nearly 45 years. As a former pitcher he
learned at an early age the disciplines and dedication it takes
to be the best.....he employs that philosophy as a coach when
teaching his players. Coach Every says, "Jerry will take
on any task, from building a player's confidence to maintaining
the field. He is the type of person who jumps right in and
gets the job done no matter how simple or difficult it may be. He is a valuable part of this team
and we are lucky to have
him".

Robert Dunham
begins his second year as the Stars pitching coach. The
native of West Covina, California believes this could be one of
Lansing's most talented pitching staff ever. The Stars who
finished with 48 and 6 record last year and a trip to the College
World Series placed players in many of colleges top pitching
categories. Dunham, who attended Mt. San Antonio Junior
College where he played baseball and football, later accepted a
scholarship to Southern Oregon State University.
After college, Coach Dunham returned to West Covina and began
coaching softball at his old high school. He guided his
girls softball team to three Southern Sectional playoffs in the
very competitive CIF Region. Robert also coached a
California's Gold travel team that saw three of his former
players go on to play for team USA and another two dozen other
players accepting Division I scholarships.
Coach Every is quick to point out that "Robert's hard work is a
huge reason why we were able to make it back to the College
World Series after a two year absence. His work ethic and
determination is un-matched by any pitching coach I have ever
had.....he has a passion for the sport and the kids who play it;
and he is a Work Horse".
Coach Dunham says, "I am enjoying working with such a talented
pitching staff. The group is so diverse, and yet they seem
to compliment each other in so many ways. I have no
illusions that the road will be long and tough, but I believe if
this team continues to work hard, they could be as talented as
any team in the junior college ranks. One thing is for
sure; I look forward to helping these talented girls get better,
and I welcome the challenge of achieving the ultimate goal".

Pat Malloy
Assistant Coach
|
Pat Malloy is in his first year on the LCC coaching staff after being part of the
LCC softball family since 2005. His daughter Ashley was
the catcher for the Stars in 2005 & 2006, and he now enjoys
watching his daughter Abbey play third base.
Pat's ball career began
playing baseball in Grand Ledge where he later helped win a
state championship in 1977 under head coach Pat O'Keefe.
After graduating from high school, he started playing fast pitch
softball in Lansing for nearly 10 years, following in his Dad's
footsteps. "From an early age, I spent my summers traveling
and watching my Dad's team play softball. Watching those
great players and teams play taught me how the game should be
played and how important it is to keep this great sport alive".
When Pat's daughters took an interest in playing softball, he
stopped playing and began coaching. He coached travel
softball for 11 years to include teams from Grand Ledge, Lansing
BAMM, and the Petoskey Blaze. He also coached at the
varsity level in Grand Ledge for four years helping that program
to over 100 wins.
"There are very few teams
in any sport, at any level, that honestly have a real shot at
winning a national championship every year. This is one of
those programs and I am very grateful to Coach Every for the
experience and the opportunity to be part of such a great
program".

Jeff Kegler begins his
third season as statistician for the LCC Stars. Jeff's
daughter, Amanda, was a member of the 2005 and 2006 LCC teams
and a two-time Academic All-American.
A
resident of Holt, Jeff has been involved in youth, high school
and now college athletics for over 15 years as a coach, athletic
board member and academic mentor. He is a firm believer
that participation in athletics is an extension of the
classroom. "Participation in athletics provides students
with lifelong learning experiences that support success in
almost every aspect of life. As a parent, I was extremely
proud to see my daughter succeed at Lansing Community College
and I am equally excited to continue being part of this
successful program as a member of the coaching staff.
Coach Every's dedication to not only making sure his players do
their very best on the playing field, but also in the classroom
reinforces my commitment to have a positive effect on the
educational development of student athletes".
