On-Campus Testing

The Assessment Center offers two primary types of testing,  placement testing and course testing. In addition, Core Proficiency Exams are offered through the Departmental Offices and also administered at the Assessment Center.

Placement Testing and Waiver Information

Almost every student who attends Lansing Community College will have to do Placement Testing. Placement Testing consists of the basic skills tests that supply students with academic levels that are needed to enroll for courses.

Students with high ACT or SAT scores, previous college coursework in English, or a completed college degree may be eligible to waive Reading and Writing placement tests.  Students who have successfully completed Intermediate Algebra or higher within the previous two years may be eligible to waive Math placement test.  To download the Student Guide to Placement Waivers, click here.  To download the Placement Waiver Application, click here.

Classroom Testing

For any student who is enrolled in a Virtual College, Telecourse, or Hybrid course through Lansing Community College that needs to complete an exam for that class.

Core Proficiency Exams

The college also offers Core Proficiency exams. To begin the process, students are required to speak with the support Staff in the Math, Language Skills, or Science department before taking the exam.
