Frequently Asked Questions

1.  What is a proctor?

A proctor is someone who administers a test. The proctor must be associated with some kind of educational institution, such as another college, university or local school. Work places, even if the work place itself is an educational institution, are not acceptable for proctoring due to a conflict of interest. For the same reasons, the proctor cannot be someone with a personal history with the student.

Military Personnel can use an education center/coordinator, if not available use a reporting officer. 

Students who reside at least 60 miles from the main campus Assessment Center can request to test at the LCC Livingston County Center in Howell. Students who would like to test at the Livingston County Center and reside within 60 miles from the main campus Assessment Center will be charged a $15 per test fee.

2.  Do I need a proctor?

 You may need a proctor if your instructor requires that you take your exams in a secure testing environment. If you live in the Greater Lansing Area you may test at the LCC Assessment Center

 If you live outside the Greater Lansing Area (60 miles from downtown Lansing) then you need to setup a proctor off LCC’s campus.
 

3How do I setup a proctor?

If you live in the Lansing area you can take your tests in the LCC Assessment Center if your instructor requires you to do so. Please contact your instructor for details.

If you reside at least 60 miles from the main campus Assessment Center, please follow the steps below to setup a proctor

 First Step:

Students who reside at least 60 miles from the main campus Assessment Center can request to test at the LCC Livingston County Center in Howell.

Students who would like to test at the Livingston County Center and reside within 60 miles from the main campus Assessment Center will be charged a $15 per test fee.

 Ask if they will proctor for you and get their contact information; name of proctor, phone number, fax number, mailing address, email address. Keep in mind you may need to drive a significant distance to test or pay for these services.

Second step:  Fill out the Proctor Request Form online at

http://www.lcc.edu/assessment/off_campus/proctor_request_form.htm

Third step:
  wait to receive a Proctor Verification Email
from our staff a seven to ten business days after you submit your request.

4.  Is there a deadline to setup a proctor?

 Yes.

Typically, the deadline for fall and spring semesters is 8 weeks into the semester, and for summer semester, it is 4 weeks into the semester. Please Click here for semester deadline dates.

5.  How often do I need to set up a proctor?

A proctor needs to be set up once per semester for every semester you are taking online classes. The proctor request must be submitted by the posted deadline. 

6.  Do I need to set up a proctor every time I take an exam?

No, once your proctor is verified for the semester we will automatically send all of your on-line course exam(s) to your proctor. 
 

7.  What do I do if my schedule changes?

Contact the online testing support office immediately regarding any changes to your semester course schedule.  (including adds, drops, incompletes, etc….) Click here for contact information listed below.
 

8.  What do I do if I have problems with my proctor site or if I need to change a proctor?

Contact the online testing support office immediately regarding any proctor issues or changes.
 

9.  Do I need to set up a proctor for each online course for which I am enrolled?

No, once your proctor is verified we will send out all tests for every class you attend online.
 

10.  How long does it take to set up a proctor?

We require
7-10 business days to process a proctor request.

12.  When is the last day of the semester to set up a proctor?

13.  I am an EArmyU student who has just been deployed, how do I set up a proctor?
If you live within 60 miles from the main campus Assessment Center you are required to test at the main campus Assessment Center, if your instructor requires you to do so.  Please contact your instructor for details. If you are being deployed, please contact the Online Testing Support Office for details.

If you live outside the Lansing area follow the steps below to setup a proctor: 

 First Step: Contact a local institution with a testing center to request proctoring services.

Ask if they will proctor for you and get their contact information; name of proctor, phone number, fax number, mailing address, email address. Keep in mind you may need to drive a significant distance to test or pay for these services.

Second step:  Fill out the Proctor Request Form online at http://www.lcc.edu/assessment/off_campus/proctor_request_form.htm

Third step:

14.  Will I be charged proctoring fees?

All proctoring fees (if any) are the responsibility of the student.  Please contact your proctor regarding fees.

LCC students who would like to test at the Livingston County Center and reside within 60 miles from the main campus Assessment Center will be charged a $15 per test fee.

15.  How long will it take for my test(s) to be sent to the proctor?

Within 2-3 business days of receiving your tests from your instructor we start the process of sending your test out via our certified mail, Learning center courier, or email.  If it is certified mail or a Learning center, depending on distance, you should allow for 5-7 business days.

16.  I'm enrolled in a telecourse and/or hybrid course can I set up a proctor to take my test somewhere other than the LCC Assessment Center downtown campus?

No. We only approve off-campus testing for LCC online learning students.   

17.  How will I know that my proctor request has been approved or denied? 

The Online Testing Support Office will send you an email notification to the email address you provided on the proctor request form.

18.  I received an incomplete in one of my courses within the last year.  Do I need to set up a proctor?
