Providing assistance to LCC students with writing projects in courses across the curriculum.

Better writing begins with better writers. Whether you're working on a Writing 121 essay, an English 122 literary analysis or a lab report for a physics class, we want to help you improve the quality of your writing. But we know that in order to produce good writing, writers must understand the task at hand and must understand that writing is a process. Good writers aren't just born that way. Most all writers, regardless of experience, must have someone they can talk to about their writing-someone who can relate to the joys writing can bring, as well as the struggles, and someone who won't judge them or take over and do it for them. That's where we come in.

"When I took my first writing class at LCC, I knew I wanted to be a writer but I was full of doubt about my ability. With the help of my instructor and the Writing Center, I learned that writing is a process and I watched my confidence grow more and more. This new-found confidence enabled me to write my first book, which is due to be published in March 2010."

Mark Edick, Dual Major: Human Services and Writing

The LCC Writing Center is committed to providing high quality one-on-one writing assistance to students in all areas of the curriculum. Our Writing Assistants can help LCC students at any stage of their writing. From brainstorming to outlining to final drafting, we provide meaningful feedback on content, organization, style and mechanics. In the areas of style and mechanics, we can help with word choice, phrasing, sentence structure, source incorporation, identifying grammatical patterns of error, in-text research citations and formatting. Although we will not send you away with editing marks or corrections on your writing, we will try to help you become a more independent, confident writer who can identify and correct your own errors.

One-on-one sessions last up to fifty minutes. Call 517-483-1907 or stop by 202 Arts & Sciences to set up an appointment. If coming to campus is inconvenient for you, we also offer on-line assistance. Whatever your writing needs might be, we look forward to discussing them with you.
