Risk Management & Insurance
The goal of the Risk Management Office is to protect people, to create and maintain a safe campus environment, and to preserve the resources of Lansing Community College against harm or loss.
Automobile Insurance
Lansing Community College's automobile insurance carrier is Middle Cities Risk Management Trust. If you have an accident involving a college vehicle, call our Police & Public Safety Department immediately. Also call the local law enforcement agency where the accident occurred. Be sure to get a number for the accident report from the reporting officer.

Certificates of Insurance - Allow Five Days for Processing
Requests for Certificates of Insurance should be forwarded to the Risk Management Coordinator, Budget Office, located in the Administration Building. The phone number is (517) 483-1730 and fax number is (517) 483-5285.
We need to know what type of insurance is to be shown (liability, auto, workers compensation, etc), limits required, if the requester needs to be named as an additional insured, if notice of cancellation needs to be shown, dates of function, etc. Requests for certificates of insurance must have a complete name and address of the party requiring evidence of insurance.
General Liability
Middle Cities Risk Management Trust insures Lansing Community College for our General Liability. General Liability claims are claims made against the college by a third party, and alleges negligence by the college that caused bodily injury or property damage on LCC owned property. All injuries or property damage/loss should be reported to Police & Public Safety who will forward the information the Risk Management office located in the Budget Office, Administration Building.
Property
Lansing Community College
Whenever LCC property is lost, damaged or stolen, it is the responsibility of the department/individual involved to contact Police & Public Safety and file a police report. PPSD will forward the report to the Risk Management Coordinator where the report will be reviewed. If the damage is over our deductible and determined to be a covered loss, a claim will be filed.
Personal Property
LCC does not insure the personal property of its students, staff or faculty.
Workers Compensation
Workers Compensation insurance is provided for all our employees when an accident or injury occurs on the job. Lansing Community College's carrier is Accident Fund Company.
Be sure to report your injury immediately to Police & Public Safety Department (PPSD), 1800, and your supervisor. If you work on Main Campus or West Campus and medical attention is needed, PPSD will transport you to St. Lawrence Occupational Health.
Employee injuries occurring at Extension Centers may be treated at the nearest health care facility. Please contact PPSD as soon as possible to report your injury.
Health care facilities often ask for authorization to treat an injured employee. PPSD or the Budget Office can authorize medical treatment. For questions regarding Workers Compensation, contact the Risk Management Coordinator at 483-1730.
Workplace Health and Safety
Lansing Community College is committed to protecting the integrity of the college's human, physical, and financial resources. We recognize our responsibility to manage the College in such a way that these resources are conserved and used effectively and safely. Accordingly, our policy is to:
- Furnish workplaces free from recognized hazards that are likely to cause injury, illness or death.
- Comply with laws and regulations set forth pertaining to Safety, Environmental, Health and Fire Safety.
- Recognize that Safety and Health issues are accepted as a high-priority of concern at LCC.
- Provide a professional program that acts as a resource to promote and support Safety and Health programs. Assist in employee training and interpretations of applicable codes.
- Hold every employee accountable for attending safety training as required and to comply with all safety policies and procedures as necessary.
- Have an active safety committee that reviews campus policies and systems related to safety. Draft new policies as needed.
- Monitor and audit safety training and policy development on an annual basis.
